My name is Jason L. and I am a Senior undergraduate Student attending University at Buffalo.
I volunteered at the Margaret Tietz Rehab Center this summer. I worked with therapists, patients and administration. The therapists I worked with at Margaret Tietz are among some of the most professional I have ever worked with. They truly have the patient’s individual needs in mind. Patients are brought down from their room by transporters individually for one -on-one treatment. They keep track of the patient’s daily progress and help the patient gain autonomy as fast as possible. Working with the therapists I learned a lot about the medical field. I got to hear their perspectives on why they work in the field and what keeps them motivated. I learned about how each therapist got to where they are and what they had to sacrifice. I learned about situations and choices I will have to consider in the future and how to best prepare.
Working with the patients was lovely. Patients come from all walks of life and you can learn so much from them. I met a patient that worked as an electrical engineer. He would tell me about the projects he worked on and their lasting effects. The administration always had your back. They offer you a variety of roles you can fill, such as with rehab, nursing, recreation and admissions. Each option is managed by a director who will offer you a unique learning experience. Overall, this experience allowed me to learn about people and occupations that were new to me. I had a great time and would highly recommend volunteering at the Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Respectfully Submitted and Best Regards, Jason L.
